ee cummings

This is one of my favorite poems of all time. It was written by ee cummings, an American poet, who was one of the first writers to experiment with the syntax of a poem. He didn't like to adhere to standard poetic form, and I think that is something that is awesome about his poetry.

This poem is a beautiful piece of work. Pay attention to grammatical errors and the like.

Enjoy

somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond
any experience, your eyes have their silence:
in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me,
or which i cannot touch because they are too near

your slightest look easily will unclose me
though i have closed myself as fingers,
you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens
(touching skilfully,mysteriously)her first rose

or if your wish be to close me, i and
my life will shut very beautifully ,suddenly,
as when the heart of this flower imagines
the snow carefully everywhere descending;

nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals
the power of your intense fragility:whose texture
compels me with the color of its countries,
rendering death and forever with each breathing

(i do not know what it is about you that closes
and opens;only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)
nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands

  1. Beautiful and deep. Sucks the education system only taught me Life brief candle and The Pearl. I really like people who engineer words (not rap)

  2. Yes, this poem is very beautiful, they should show more things like this to the school age children, teach them appreciation for true art.

  10. What a wonderful poem, thanks for sharing Cat. Cummings is such an extraordinary talent. I remember reading "I carry your heart with me" and the impact it had on me.

  13. I'm a huge fan of poetry. The Good Man is my favorite poet, but this was also a very beautiful piece of prose.

  14. I suppose that accurate perception of this type of art is restricted for native english users or people with very advanced skills in using it. Someone like me with C1 level its just difficult in reading not value of poem itself

  18. Sadly I have quite a problem understanding poems, so to me they're just a short story which people keep trying to get me to explain.
