Roll of Thunder, Soothe My Heart

It’s a warm evening, and a storm is coming in. One of my favorite things is to sit outside and listen to the thunder. It rumbles quietly in the distance.
The air is heavy with moisture, and a few drops land on my bare legs. The sky grows darker with every passing minute. The bell tolls eight times; the thunder keeps coming. Softly at first, but every so often there is a loud rumble. A gentle breeze blows and rustles my hair.
And yet there will be no stars tonight. No glimmers of light in the sky, no soft twinkling as they burn far away. No moon tonight either. I like to watch it pass behind the clouds as they it plays hide and seek with the stars.
The trees, in full bloom, look ominous against the dark grey sky. It reminds me of a big slate, and the trees are so still they look drawn on.
It’s beautiful and quiet, with the exception of the occasional roll of thunder.
Roll of Thunder, Soothe My Heart.
Let us be quiet and sit here, and listen to the birds chirp as they prepare for the onslaught of rain.

Edit: And what a storm it was.

  6. I love those quiet nights where the chaotic forces of a storm rage, but because of their distance it is easy to forget that those same soothing sounds are, in reality, powerful enough to rip you apart. I think that is a type of balance; the same strength that tears the world asunder can calm the hearts of others.

  7. Watching a storm is so peaceful, especially because I feel like the storm understands my inner turmoil. Not only does it understand, but the storm is a physical representation of that turmoil.

  8. Neat, we really should balance our love for technology and also towards nature. It's raining almost every evening from where i'm from so i can totally relate to your post. Nothing like going to the balcony and watching thunders in the soothing sound and breeze of the rain.

  12. The funny thing is that the same weather was here yesterday!
It is kind of weird that the morning can be hot and sunny and then from all of the sudden weather changes its mood and goes all raining followed by the thunders.
Your writing style is peaceful, I can see you as a writer some day. :)

  16. My storms haven't been nice to me. They have been scattered in short bursts and I prefer one long storm. :(
